Gwrai Vol.1 - Zephaniah

As a child, growing up is not an option. All you want to do is stay young and spend time with your friends, adventuring in the outdoors. Never wanting things to change...

As an 11-year-old you fear the future. This is your last year in school before you go to High School. Wanting to delay the inevitable, you spend as much time with your friends as possible, scared that one day you will grow up and this will all be over.

As Spring moves on, and you get closer to Summer, you find yourself on the bws, traveling to your last school trip, having a party to celebrate your last days, playing all your favorite video games with your friends, spending time in the great outdoors and only coming home when you can't feel your feet...

But as you are enjoying yourself, tragedy strikes. You and your friends get into a terrible accident, injuring everyone, putting 3 of you into a coma. As the doctors try to wake you, ascension surrounds you and you find yourself in a completely different realm...

You find yourself in an empty white room apart from one thing. In the distance you can see a hospital bed and a patient seemingly floating in midair. You look beneath yourself and find that you are also sat on a hospital bed. As you get up to walk towards the other bed, something hits you.

Multiple voices are surrounding your brain, all of which are indistinguishable from each other,

“Start neural stimulation test 1 - childhood memories.” came over loud and clear.

A bunch of childhood memories flash before your eyes, almost as if coming from as disposable camera. Feeling as if you are there for a week, but its merely seconds... then nothing.

“Net neural response zero, start neural stimulation 2 – trauma."

You feel a sense of mediation surround you as if being given a sermon whilst in a nightmare. Audio surrounds you. This time the memories are different. You close your eyes to hide from the horrors that you are seeing, but to no avail. The images are burnt onto your retinas.

“Net neural response 0.43%”

“We’ll leave this one till later.”

Lying back down, tired, and weeping a tearless cry, you drift off into sleep, dreaming of cartref, the lady and the future.

The slight sound of a television helps you sleep, that little bit of home seeping through the cracks. As you dream a future becomes. You can see yourself and your friends in the next stage of life, while also seeing what had been. It was then you heard that familiar tune ‘Shine On, Harvest Moon."
